Resident Evil Veronica Fans Already Have Two Big Debates

Resident Evil Veronica doesn't have a release date yet, but that hasn't stopped the community from dissecting every detail Capcom has shared so far.

Within days of its reveal, the remake passed one million wishlists, becoming one of the most discussed upcoming Resident Evil projects. At the same time, two topics have completely dominated fan conversations: the camera perspective and the possibility of story changes. Neither discussion is likely to disappear anytime soon.

The First-Person Debate Ended Quickly

The reveal trailer created immediate confusion. Because much of the footage was shown from a first-person perspective, some players assumed Veronica would follow Resident Evil 7 and Village rather than the recent remakes. For a few days, that theory gained serious traction. Then Capcom stepped in and settled the matter before the community could spend another month analysing camera angles like a conspiracy documentary.

The studio confirmed that Veronica is a third-person game from start to finish and that the trailer's perspective was simply a creative choice for the reveal. In hindsight, the explanation is fairly logical. Resident Evil's remake line has been built around third-person gameplay for years, and Veronica fits naturally into that framework. Still, the confusion generated plenty of discussion—and probably enough YouTube thumbnails to fill the Spencer Mansion.

The Story Is Creating More Questions

If the camera debate is over, the story debate is just getting started. Capcom has suggested that some narrative elements may be revisited as part of the remake. The company hasn't announced specific changes, but that alone was enough to spark discussion across Resident Evil communities. The focus quickly shifted toward Alfred Ashford and some of Veronica's stranger story moments. Longtime fans know exactly which scenes are being discussed. Newer fans are about to find out.

That's hardly surprising. Even by Resident Evil standards, Veronica has always been one of the series' most eccentric entries. Fans often praise the game for exactly that reason. As a result, many players agree that certain elements could benefit from modernization. The disagreement begins when people try to decide exactly which elements those are. It's the classic remake problem: everyone wants improvements, but nobody agrees on where the improvements should stop.

One Million Wishlists Show Strong Demand

What's notable is that none of these debates seem to be hurting enthusiasm for the project. Passing one million wishlists so early is a strong result for any game. For Veronica, it's an especially important milestone because the original never achieved the same mainstream status as Resident Evil 2 or Resident Evil 4.

For years, the game developed a reputation as the Resident Evil classic that many newer fans had heard about but never actually played. The remake changes that situation completely.

Capcom Has Built Up Plenty of Trust

Part of the excitement comes from Capcom's recent history. Over the last several years, the company has delivered a string of successful Resident Evil releases and well-received remakes. That track record has earned a level of trust that few publishers currently enjoy.

Of course, Veronica still has plenty to prove. Players will want to see longer gameplay demonstrations, more details about the combat system and a clearer explanation of how far the story revisions will go. But at this stage, the conversation around the remake is less about whether fans want it and more about how Capcom plans to handle it. Considering the game just crossed one million wishlists, that's probably the kind of problem most publishers would happily borrow for a weekend.
