Sega Stated That A New Sonic Game May Not Be Released In 2022

This year Sega released a video teaser of a new Sonic game which will be launched in 2022. Nevertheless, there are still no further details about the title that quite upset fans of the franchise. Lately, the situation was aggravated as the head of the gaming development studio Sonic Team Takashi Iizuka stated that the trailer was shown prematurely.

The reason for the appearance of the teaser too early is the thirtieth anniversary of Sonic . Iizuka wanted to present something to fans, but it became more upsetting for players than he primarily thought. Besides, the trailer contains few details. We can see a blue hedgehog running in the forest and an unknown symbol. Also, the teaser confirmed that the title will be launched in 2022 and it will be available on PlayStation, Xbox, and Nintendo Switch consoles as well as PC.

Nevertheless, it’s pretty strange that the game which will be released next year is not ready to be shown yet. Players hope that the company tries to make an intrigue, but it can mean that the title is still far away from the finish. Hence, the development may not be in time until 2022. It is bad news for all the fans of the Sonic franchise as in this way, the release of the title will be postponed for an unknown period which may take even several years.

According to the latest interview, Iizuka stated that the upcoming title will be the first action game since Sonic Forces. The game is still untitled, but some leaks and Sega press releases mention it as Sonic Rangers. Nevertheless, it may not be an official title of the game and it will be changed later. Also, the head of the studio didn’t provide any answers about the symbol that appeared in the trailer. He only mentioned that it will be revealed later as well as we will get more details about the game.

Perhaps, such a strategy aims to avoid any leaks and spoilers of the future game. In this way, the absence of any updates and details about the untitled game is pretty clear. Besides this title, it was confirmed that several games of this franchise are under development right now. Among them are the remaster of Sonic Colors which will be launched this September, and the compilation of old titles called Sonic Origins will be released in 2022 as well. Other projects are still unrevealed. Also, fans are waiting for the new Sonic animated series on Netflix consisting of 24 episodes.
