Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2 – How to Choose Playstyle

You’re about to be dropped into the muddy, brutal world of medieval Bohemia, and Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2 isn't going to hold your hand. One of your first decisions will significantly shape your early game experience: choosing your starting path. Soldier, Adviser, or Scout? While you can eventually master any skill, this initial choice gives you a much-needed leg up in a world where survival is often measured in gulps of stale ale and dodged blows to the head. In a world ruled by sharp steel and sharper wits, the Adviser’s path is a surprisingly potent one. Forget brute force; KCD2 rewards those who can manipulate, persuade, and haggle their way to success. A silver tongue can defuse tense situations, unlock lucrative opportunities, and secure the best prices from tight-fisted merchants. Unlike combat, where a lucky blow can sometimes save the day, failed dialogue checks can slam doors shut, forcing painful reloads or less-than-ideal outcomes. So, if you prefer winning battles with words rather than bloodshed, the Adviser’s path offers a significant advantage, especially in the unforgiving early game.

The Warrior's Way of the Soldier

For those who prefer the clang of steel on steel to the subtleties of diplomacy, the Soldier's path offers a more direct route to power. Let's be honest, combat is inevitable in KCD2, and starting with a boost to your fighting skills is like strapping on an extra layer of armor. While you can certainly learn to swing a sword (or an axe, or a mace…) effectively regardless of your starting choice, the Soldier's initial edge reduces early-game frustration and allows you to face down even the most aggressive brigands with confidence. The Scout, with their focus on agility, stealth, and ranged combat, offers a tantalizingly different approach. Imagine silently picking off enemies from the shadows, slipping past unsuspecting guards, and vanishing like smoke in the wind. The reality, however, can be a bit… messier. KCD2 often forces direct confrontations, where a Scout’s relative lack of melee prowess can become a glaring weakness. This path is best suited for experienced players or those with a deep commitment to stealth and archery, demanding patience, tactical thinking, and a healthy dose of luck to truly shine.

Your Legend Awaits: Choose Wisely

Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2 offers a truly dynamic RPG experience, allowing you to ultimately become whatever kind of medieval badass you desire. However, your starting path significantly impacts your early game journey. The Adviser’s diplomatic approach provides the most versatile and forgiving start, followed by the Soldier for those who prefer a more direct, steel-meets-skull approach. The Scout’s path is a riskier proposition, offering high rewards for those willing to embrace the shadows, but demanding patience and a mastery of stealth to truly thrive. So, choose wisely, adventurer. Your legend awaits.
