Octopath Traveler 2 disappoints Japanese gamers

Unfortunately, this video game gained little popularity in Japan. Retail sales figures could have been much better. So, the release of the sequel to the popular role-playing video game from Square Enix took place the previous month, on February 24th. In the first week, only 78,000 copies of this game were sold on PS4 and 5 and Nintendo Switch. The video game took second place among the most unsuccessful releases of Team Asano's new products. As you know, the first place in this low rating is given to the game Live A Live, which was released last year. Only 71,000 copies were sold then.

However, the role-playing game was released only on the Nintendo Switch, while Octopath Traveler 2 was available on both the Nintendo Switch and PS.

The failure of this game extremely upset its creators. It is unclear why this happened because, in general, the novelty improved the original game, but it failed to surpass the original version in terms of sales. It is the only multi-platform novelty developed by Team Asano.

The original video game was developed by Square Enix in conjunction with Acquire. The release of the novelty took place first for the Nintendo Switch in 2018. Since then, the game has been released for other platforms as well.
