Buying the PS5 will become much easier: Sony guarantees the supply of semiconductors

This year the company plans to release more than 15 million new consoles. 

According to Hiroki Totoki, Sony's CFO, buying a PS5 console will soon become affordable for any consumer. 

During a phone call about the company's quarterly earnings, the head of finance was asked several questions. Investors were interested in the reason for the semiconductor shortage and the difficulty in buying consoles since last November. In his response, Totoki told investors that Sony had not just determined console sales for the year, but had secured all the chipsets needed to make them. 

The exact information about the number of PS5 consoles that Sony intends to sell is currently unknown. Totoki noted that the main goal for this fiscal year is to sell more than 15 million consoles. More than ten million consoles have been sold since launch, so the goal is realistic and achievable. 

A number of circumstances are making it difficult for players to purchase the PS5. Along with the shortage of semiconductors, the worldwide pandemic has negatively impacted production activities and shipments worldwide. After the consoles went on sale, specialized scalper groups created new difficulties. They bought back and resold more than 60,000 next-generation consoles in just weeks after the PS5 and Xbox Series X were released.

By now, all the components have become widely available. We can only hope that customers can enjoy their purchases in the near future.
