Guardians of the Galaxy Start Sales Were Low

Guardians of the Galaxy Start Sales Were Low

The publisher was again not very pleased with his next fresh release. Nevertheless, later Square Enix likely changed the state of affairs to higher sales.

Publisher Square Enix, as part of the financial report for the third quarter of the current fiscal year, mentioned the success of the adventure action game Marvel's Guardians of the Galaxy from the studio Eidos Montreal.

Until recently, Square Enix did not talk about the sales of Marvel's Guardians of the Galaxy, but it is known that in terms of starting figures in British retail, the game "did not get close" to Marvel's Avengers.

As noted in Square Enix, despite the warm reception of the press, the launch of Marvel's Guardians of the Galaxy did not reach the goals set by the management. Discounts helped to start correcting the situation.

Guardians of the Galaxy is set to release on October 26, 2021. The title won a number of awards at the end of the year, but after the failure of the "Avengers" from Crystal Dynamics, interest in another superhero project from Square Enix was already much lower. The game was developed by Eidos Montreal, which made Deus Ex: Human Revolution, Deus Ex: Mankind Divided, and Shadow of the Tomb Raider.

According to the studio, starting in November 2021, the company held a number of successful discounts, which eventually led to a significant increase in sales of the title. They are going to continue this company. According to the plan, as a result, the weak start of the project will be fully compensated.

Square Enix also acknowledged that despite the release of Marvel's Guardians of the Galaxy, NieR Replicant ver.1.22474487139... and Outriders, net sales were lower than a year earlier when Marvel's Avengers and Final Fantasy VII Remake were released.

In the MMO segment, net sales rose over the past year, driven by a "significant" increase in Final Fantasy XIV subscribers and the successful launch of the Endwalker add-on. Square Enix's overall revenue declined due to a lack of major releases on the level of Final Fantasy VII Remake and Marvel's Avengers.

As of today, it's pretty unclear whether to wait for the continuation of the franchise. Considering that the developer seems to be able to increase sales of the title, but never became a hit. Accordingly, it may be not that profitable for the developer to continue this particular franchise.
